Head off the car, trying to take out the cams? help

I put a wrench on the cam to hold it still and then try to unbolt the cam gear but it keeps spinning.

The head is off the car so there is nothing holding it down either.

please help

Then you're probably doing it wrong. A wrench on the cam and socket on gear bolt should be enough. Try putting a little heat on the bolt. Be sure to replace the bolt with a new one afterward though.

I did have one cam bolt that I ended up having to grind the head off because the head was stuck to the gear and the threads were really nasty. It looked like they dipped it in salt water then installed it.

hopefully you have the head on something smooth so it doesn't damage the head surface.
leverage is your friend on this one.

Buy a vice to hold the head down.

I was able to get my cam bolts with a wrench and a ratchet. It helps if you have another person to pull on the wrench.

The cams have places on them to lock on a big wrench, just use a big one, or an impact wrench
