I wonder if there's an exchange program for those of us with the old housing.

The EvoRed compressor wheel has been HTA since its inception. The only thing new is the optional surge ported compressor housing.

FP told me that the new housing will be available for sale separately, as well as part of a new or rebuilt turbo.

Yeah they would surge with high boost so that is why they took the time to offer this re-design.

Why would they take the time to redesign for a problem they weren't having? More importantly why would you take the time to post a question that you should be able to answer yourself?

I dont think the reds really had a surging problem myself.. I think FP machining their own housing is a more cost effective way to build the turbo and while they are at why not give it a nice antisurge port.. I know for a fact its very hard to get ahold of the stock housing front covers from MHI.. so i am sure this was the solution to meet the demands as these turbos are ALWAYS on backorder..

I have heard from some people that they had surge but the main reason was because FP couldn't keep up with the demand. Mainly because Mitsubishi was screwing around with FP. So FP felt it was best for them to machine the whole entire turbo instead of waiting for factory evo 9 cores

And make them a little bigger for more flow, and eliminate surge so it's like a win, win, win, if you ask me.
