HELP rear drivetrain buck during power shift

Just bought this car one week ago and havent been able to find anyone that knows what this is.. when shifting hard in any gear there is a horrible knock coming from the rear. If youre sitting in the back seat you can feel it. Anyone have any ideas.

Appreciate any thoughts. thx

Im pretty sure its the drvieshaft hitting the bottom of the car. You can get urethane diff bushings and it will take it away. But if you do them something else is going to take that shock, possibly tranny. Theres a thread on this somewhere on here.

I get the noise while making hard down shifts. To prevent it I give it partial (half) throttle when making the downshift then go wot.

Every evo I've ever been in has done this. Sounds like you just dropped a safe in the trunk everytime you power shift / flat shift. It's normal. My two friends Evo III's did it, my two friends and mine Evo VI's did it. And my other buddies new IX does it.

i get this too when I shift hard.
Every AWD car I have been in does this on hard shifts. I just chalked it up to the diff locking

Rear diff bushings and driveshaft bushings will really help you out. I personally have Energy diff bushings and Beatrush driveshaft bushings. One of my friends has Beatrush diff bushings and they're really nice too and a lot easier to install.

I don't think so .. He is hearing the famous loud rear diff "clunk." The rear diff bushings will fix this....

I call it the "dead baby in the trunk" sound.

Morbid and in bad taste? Sure. But it gets a laugh.

A front motor mount does make a nice difference, but it will not cure his specific issue. While you're buying other bushings though you might as well get a nice Blox front engine roll-stopper (motor mount) while you're at it

I've had 3 evos 2 with over 450whp and I've never touched any bushings on the diff itself just the front engine mount which has eliminated all my clunking.

I have 3 out of 4 motormounts replaced and it just makes shifting more precise. The rear diff moves a lot. Once you get solid "dog ears" or side support brackets, it will stay in place and remove clunking. Don't take it from me though. Look at the AMS Moustache bar eliminator. It notes that and so do other similar products that stiffen the rear diff.
