I was just curious, how long/many miles before you needed a new battery for your evo IX's???

Im @ 13,500 and ~ 3 years old. Reason I ask, is cause Im sitting here waiting for some1 to come give me a jump, or take a look at my car, cause it wont start at the moment.

 

i just replaced my 03 evo 8 stock battery about 6 months ago. my car has 50k miles

I have a 2003 evo 8 with 16,300 miles on it... stock battery, never done anything to keep a charge in it over the winters (ie: battery tender).
No problems yet....

While 3 years is on the lower side, its not uncommon for a battery to take a dive in that amount of time/use.

 

Mine lasted over 60K miles even though it died twice and I revive it twice. It was still good till last winter. I had to revive it one last time to go buy a replacement.

 

I got less than 36 months out of the stocker - the 120+ temps in the summers here simply toast the living s**t out of batteries. Those temps are air temps in the shade so when you throw on direct sunlight, asphalt temps near 150, and heat soak from the engine, you might be looking at a battery surface temp near 160. Then you drive in traffic, with little or no airflow, so yeah.

Most people here & in Phoenix I've talked to replace a battery every couple of summers; it just won't hold cold cranking amps anymore, even if the voltage is up to par.

This is pretty much a consumable expense (like tires or brake pads) out here.

 

I'm at 36k and mine has died on me twice now. First time was about a month ago. The last time was just this last Sunday at the drag strip.

We charged it but it's not wanting to hold very well.

Time for a new one.

 

Got 4 years on mine @ 43000 miles. Just replaced it.

 

27k mi still on original battery. Never any prob. But if I park it for a while I pull that little tab in the ECU box to disable clock and radio. Small drain but still a drain. You prolly left yer lights on.

 

i'm at 65k and on the OEM one!!

But, it's a daily driver, highway miles, and garaged, so that usually helps. . ..

mine went after one year, or 18K miles. Honestly, the best way to tell how good of a condition the battery might be in both externally in appearance, and internally, in its ability to charge and HOLD that charge, is to drain the battery slightly. I have no recommended way of doing this besides turning on your lights, or stereo and letting the battery supply the power. Take measurement reading of the battery charge level before you do this. Then once your done listening to tunes or blinding yourself from the constantly staring into the high beams, check the battery charge level again. It should be lower. Now what you want to do is start to charge - recharge- the battery using a battery charger, NOT YOUR CAR's ALT. What you want to look for is a lag in the battery's ability to charge up, and hold that charge. If the battery takes a LONG time to charge on an average battery charger that is not set to trickle charge, but fast or rapid charge, and/or the battery is never able to reach a full charge before the charger shuts down or stops, then this is a sign that the battery's useful life is nearing an end. If a battery charges slow, or can't ever reach its full battery charge potential, its likely a cell is dead, or that the acidic mixture within the battery has gone bye bye. In either case, a cell dying, or the mixture disappearing, all these are signs your battery needs to be replaced.

Always keep in mind that electrical issues can be solved through the replacing of a faulty battery, as it was in my case. In which the car would consitently stall when pushing in the clutch, this stopped after replacing the battery and has not rear its head since.
