drop in pistons help
i am at currently at 87k miles on my evo8... did a compression test at about 85k miles and it came out to 160 across the 4 cylinders....which isnt bad....but i want more power but im scared of throwing a rod and ruining my block....my future plans are to go double pumper, 1450cc injectors and a fp red at 32psi and gsc s2 cams on e85... which should put me a lil over 500whp....
so ive been looking to do drop in pistons, what do you guys think of this kit?
i think its a really good price for a good set of rods and pistons
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wisec...Q5fAccessories
here are some pics of my pistons at 85k miles, the cylinder walls dont look that bad at all i think personally....

i wana hear from the people that have had experience with drop ins

I have lots of experience with drop ins. Dont use wiseco. Their drop ins are not machined as well as others. I would get the JE from buschur. Cant tell you how many ruined bores I have seen from using wiseco. They are not clearanced enough.

ok..thxs for the advice
so do you think i can get away with just honing the block with out pulling the motor? and dropping in the pistons... the cylinder wallas looked really good and they DO NOT have any kind of cracks on them....it actually looked like they been honed before....

Yea, from the factory! If you can still see all of the factory honing marks that is a good thing. Lots of up/down marks are bad.
Great comment about the weisco drop-ins, wonder what the deal is there.
I guess the best thing to do is to check the bores and make sure they are round with a precision bore gauge. I don't have any experience doing this but from my other thread, that is what I gathered.
Last thing, buy them from a vendor on here. Modern Automotive Performance can get you everything mentioned above, including the buschur JE pistons for a smoking deal, and you'll have someone to talk to about it after you've spent the dough.

i'd literally go to Buschur, get the JE pistons they sell for less than $700, have them install it, and call it a day. . .you're risking way too much here and I'm sure they're reasonable on the install since you're buying their product. . .

I would take everything you hear/read on these forums with a grain of salt...go with reputable shops , whether it be local or not. Too many people have too much to say w/out any "real" knowledge

So are you guys saying not lsiten to buschur or ttp or Al at dyno flash?they all have good knowledge to what they are do..
no, I'm saying just the opposite...listen to the people who know, not just "act like they know". Reputation is one of the most important aspects IMO
