Evo 8.5 starts, then dies after 5 seconds

I am having an issue with the evo. It's an 05, I just swapped a IX motor and 03 transfer case into it, and entire evo 9 wiring harness and ecu. The motor and ecu was previously in an evo 8. I have double and triple checked connections and harnesses for days. For some reason, I can start the car and it runs great for about 5 seconds, then stalls. It's like something electrical shuts it off. It does it every single time. Spark plugs are fine, has gas, all fuel hooked up, etc. I don't know where else to look. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Yea the light is on, I need to check the code(s). It's just weird that it starts up perfectly like that and then just dies. The rear o2 sensor is not plugged in.

I am wondering if the rear o2 sensor is different in the evo 8 vs evo 9, the 9 harness I am using doesnt seem to have one, or at least the same one. I doubt that this is my problem though.

Don't think so. This motor, harness, ecu, and t-case all came out of an 03 evo, which did not have ACD.

It should still run with an o2 code. Have you checked cam angle sensor and others to see if anything could be a miss? You said you triple checked everything but maybe a sensor is bad and the ecu things something isn't going right.

Check what code/s you are throwing and, also, use EcuFlash to determine if the immobilizer has been disabled.

The motor was in my car before we put it in his. The check engine light was on a while when I was running it. I put a scanner on it back then and it threw a some codes. map sensor problem, rear o2 sensor bad, and something about the egr valve. The car ran fine though. The motor has set up for about six months without being ran though sense then. It was kind of open to the elements as well. Not internals, just the outside. Maybe that will help someone give jake or I some advice.

Boscoyo, I think if the immobilizer is enabled it just want crank period but thats not the case. I could be wrong though. let me know if you know anything about it otherwise.

maybe you got a fuse shorted out or some circuit shorted...sounds definitely electrical related.

From personal experience with the immobilizer issue on an 8, it will start the first time for a few seconds before shutting off. But each attempt after that it WON'T even try to start/ fire up unless it "sees" that everything is good to go with the immobilizer side of things.

I'd definitely pull the codes since that should give you a good idea of what's wrong. After that, make sure you're getting fuel and spark at the correct places. If you are, make sure the timing is correct. With those three things, it should at least start. Good luck.
