Noob Question about Starter Location..

Uuuuh where is the starter? I've been looking under my hood for 30 minutes and feel totally newb.

I hear its by the intake manifold.. but I don't see it anywhere..

Why I ask is... my cars not turning over (even with a new battery!).. So I'm assuming its the starter... I can't find it though.

Usually, the Starter is on the transmission side, (drivers for Evo), on the back, below the intake manifold. Access is from underneath, and behind. I'm trying to remember seeing it, when i was under the car before.

GOOD question ... funny I have never seen or look at my starter yet but I would think it sits on top of the tranny becasue it suppose to spin the flywheel to start.

Look under the front bumper, locate the tranny and where it connects to the engine. The starter is right there with a wire running to it and a heat shield on it. Left of th cross beam.

Yea.. I actually found it a few minutes ago.. does it just have that one wire connector on the left side or is there another somewhere else on it? I mainly ask because it's dead and a friend was telling me to mess with the "wires" .. but really I was only able to feel one wire that had a connector on it.

If your planning to mess with the starter make sure to disconnect the battery first!
Don't ask how I know...lol.

There is a small wire that comes from the ignition switch. When the key is turned to the start position this small wire is energized and pulls in the solenoid which meshes the starter gear with the flywheel and then closes a switch connecting the battery directly to the starter through a larger cable. Then the starter motor runs. So, two wires.

The two wires he's talking about are right next to each other.

One has a nut that holds it in place
The other is next to it(less than an inch apart). It's a simple black connector that pushes on.

Good luck.
