Amsoil VS Redline evo8 trans fluid need your input
He is going to recommend AMSoil 10W-30 in the motor, AMSoil GL-4 Tranny fluid, and AMSoil Severe Gear for the diff and transfer case as that is what he recommended and sold to me and its what you should use. I would go for it! Be prepared for a cost of $100-115.
trans ok. and t/c i wont use anything but stock.
We are happy you chose AMSOIL MTG GL4 tranny fluid, your oil should be on its way to Dog Box company transmission shop.
ok well with how crappy the search function is on this forum i need to make another thread.
i am getting my trans rebuilt and everything will be new. so i want to start it off with the right fluid. im not interested in anything other then the 2 brands i just mentioned. so there is no need to recommend anything else to me.
the car is used for weekend drag racing and mainly highway fun. i only want info from guys who are making big numbers/fast track times and really beat the **** out of there car/trans. anyone else need not apply. hard core track guys are also welcome..all i want to know is what your using and how do you like it. also explain your trans setup/builder and miles you have been using one of the brand fluids i am interested in.
also what viscosity ''spell check'' are you using or model fluid should i say??
SHOP GUYS. please post up. im more interested in your guys input then anyone else.
NOTE... i know a dead cold trans with thick fluid does not shift well. i dont care about that as i never drive the car till its warmed up anyway. thanks to those who can help.

since evodan is pushing high power a 10w30 maybe not, we would have to step it up to a 40 maybe a 50.
maybe he would benefit from using racing oil.
I agree with this guy...I use the same mix and with 83,000 miles on the stock tranny, I drained the fluid the other day and there were only minor metal hairs on part of the magnet...The car sees 20,000 hard miles a year and runs low 11 sec. passes on an FP Green and AEM EMS with all supporting mods...If I reach over 600whp I may switch to Light Weight Shock Proof.
Motor I currently use amsoil signature 0w30 which is by far better than the stock mobil 1 or redline.
Tranny however I am using redline mt-90 on my shep built tranny, oem qiaqueen in the transfer case and redline heavy shockproof in the rear diff.
Next time I might try the mt-90 / mtl mix.

John Shepherd personally recommended the Lightweight Shockproof fluid for my 2nd transmission rebuild for the power I was aiming for/making. Originally it was only MT90 to be used. The Lightweight Shockproof has been in the car for a year and I have had no issues. I do have a 5th gear grind that started fairly quickly after the rebuild but John said there is a chance it would come back being a common problem with Evo's but every other gear has been solid smooth and perfect shifts. I don’t exactly shift slow either which was another reason for the recommendation. I lift to shift every time but in a video you would beg to differ on that statement
I do realize the information from Team RIP and it makes perfect sense, but my car isn’t daily driven it’s a weekend only car and gets some fair abuse when driven so I went with what would protect the gears the most. My realization is that I would need to rebuild it before that potential problem would become true. I am on my 2nd Shep transmission, the first died from several lower clutch line (the solid line) failures and synchros getting destroyed.
I have tossed the idea of trying AMSOIL in the transmission but haven’t really made up my mind for that yet. I do run the AMSOIL 15w50 Racing Oil in the engine it is has been a great fluid, I am very impressed with it.

How much power are you making?
I am changing my setup currently and I will be looking 600awhp+++ on racegas. I will also change me engine oil since I will have to go with a heavier oil but I will probably stick with amsoil.
Now for the tranny I will only use what shepherd reccomends.

I 100% agree with that. I have been using Amsoil in my motors since 02 when i boost my 00 Si and I have never had any issue I love the fact that is was much better then any other synthetic. The only over the counter synthetic i heard was good was Valvoline but that was a long time ago I don't know if that is still the case.

. Never really had a reason to start running race gas yet as I dont drive it much or even play with it much lately. The car is fully built top to bottom with a 37r turbo all parts are basically from AMS and a few key componets from Buschur Racing. The detailed mod list is quite large.I am shooting for mid 700's on race gas when that day comes.
Best option is to see what the transmission builder recommends.
I think evodan is puhing some high numbers powerwise, since i talk to Jestr alot and we talk about all the good cars he tunes and evodan is one of those.
