Clutch life and how much abuse any clutch will take is more relative to driving style than it is power level or launches. Although our street clutch uses a friction material that is much more durable than the factory disc, the casting of the pressure plate is the same as any standard Evo p/pl and it will only take so much heat before it becomes damaged and warped. Once a p/pl gets warped, then shifting becomes increasing difficult regardless of brand. You can go thousands of miles without damaging it even with hard launches, but it only takes but it only takes a mistake or two (during a launch for instance) to cause some real damage to clutch parts. Pedal adjustment (at the clutch m/c rod) will help increase clutch air gap to correct it unless the damage is severe.

Clutch tip of the day: Keep in mind that excessive slippage is what causes excessive heat. Some people feel they are being "easy" on the clutch if they gradually engage it. Instead they are only being easy on the transmission. In general, if you want to be easy on the clutch, be hard on the transmission by engaging the clutch quickly.

ive had my ACT HD G6 six puck clutch for almost a year and ive never had any lockout issues. 12000 miles and about ten launches and still no problems even revving to 8k.

FWIW I've had the ACT HDSS (HD PP & Street Disc) for over 20K miles and it's still awesome.

No lockouts ever - adjusting it is key. I find that I have to readjust it about once a year (usually when the weather starts to get colder).

Dont even get me started on the lockout thing. Mine is a royal piece of ****. Not sure if it always did this because i didnt have it 30k ago when it was installed, but its horrible right now.
I can tell you though, I ran ACT religiously in the past and put them thru the ringers for sure. Only ran the street disc one other time in another car, but had many many many many launches on slicks on it and grabbed like a ****.

Mine is locking out too from 3rd to 4th.. 6 puck with gruppe-s flywheel. I haven't adjusted it since it started I'm thiinking about new front motor mount and stainless line.. Only 3 total launches on mine slipped it too much and glazed it and it still grabs hard :0

LOL that's probably what happened to mine when i first brought it to the track i was trying to slip the clutch a bit off the line and i bet something didn't like that too much!

Here's the thread w/ pics of the damage

I know you stated in my thread Dirk that having the bushing smashed out was indicitive of mis-alignment due to missing dowel or loose engine bolts but niether was the case......oh well the quest for the perfect clutch will go on i'm happy with my new clutch's performance although it does lack in other areas.

ACT clutch is great for minor bolt ons and stuff. Big power you really need a twin disc.
Also, twin disc if you race a lot too.

408whp 401ftlb
My Cusco twin lasted 60k miles and racing a lot...And still spun or chirp second with ease.
The ACT after that last 12k miles not racing at all...Street disc. I should've gotten a puck style...

thanks for the replys guys.....i just really dont feel like putting a clutch in the car at the moment lol....i dont have the money for a twin disc and my car s staying at the mods/hp its at until next winter.

like i said i got about 8-10 launches on the clutch over about a year span.....maybe even more lol. i dont beat on my car ever its a weekened driver....but like i said it does have 8-10 launches on it.

and knowing my luck ill launch it one more time and at my power it will start to slip, and im not putting another street clutch in it. lol

guess no more launching for me unless its for money at the track again haha

thanks guys.

Good info...

I heard mixed reviews on the ACT, my buddy just picked one up 1500 miles ago, no super harsh driving yet. We will see how long it lasts

I go the ACT HDSS w/ pro lite flywheel.

Less than 10k miles but over 40 launches at the track and about 1/2 being 1.6 60'. Clutch is doing good but I do worry how much longer it will hold.

I just removed my ACT HDSS with pro lite flywheel ... It had about 70k on it... and I beat the **** out of that clutch. it did finally start to slip before I replaced... there is no clutch out there that can last this long IMO

Well I can say the do last and hold power decently well. But once it comes to shifting fast and higher hp it doesnt hold up. Since the last I posted I have added meth and upped the boost along with a ported exhaust manifold and Im getting bad lock out now in 4th grinding in the rest of the gears.

I think it has had it with the 25k on it. I am by no means easy on it and launch the car usually 10-15 times at track events along with burning up the tires. I launch at 7500 also. Itll take some abuse for a while but Ill definitely be going spec twin.

My street disk is just starting to slip at high rpms w/ the HTA turbo, but I've done dozens of track launches with it and not skipped a beat. It will hold the power for a while, my best trap w/ it was 127 on a 50-trim. After 30k miles I would say it's done it's job and will be replacing w/ a 6-puck next.
