Rod end caps: which side faces the flywheel?

Rod end caps: which side faces the flywheel?

Right, once my new connecting rod bolts come I'll be ready to start (yet again) with my rebuild. I was looking at the conrod end caps as I cleaned them today and suddenly realised they were not symmetrical. The photo below shows both sides of them:



As you can see from the top (see below), there are no markings to indicate the direction of the crank as there are on DSM caps. But I am sure it matters which side faces the flywheel. Can anyone help me out here in telling me which side should face what? Cheer in advance

I don't think it really matters as long as the cap is placed on the rod correctly, i.e the bearing holding tang needs to be on the same side of the rod as the tang on the rod itself. I hope you kept track of which cap goes with which rod or you might be in for trouble. If you have mixed them up you can probably look at the fine machining marks to determine which one goes with which.

YES, once you drop the new piston and rod combo in, the tang needs to match up to the one on the rod. Good luck.
