Mad Performance Products axle back dyno plots & sound clips
Whats up all,
I'm wrapping up my testing and about to have the jigs built for the first production run of my axle back exhaust. I know there are a few other out there already and to be honest I did not know about buschurs until a week or so ago or I probably would not have bothered with this.....
Regardless, the unit bolts up to the stock muffler flange with a lazer cut flange, mandrel bent 2.5" pipe section, and finishes off with a nice magnaflow doublewall tip. Price will be $200 and If I can get 10 pre orders shipping will be included for those first 10. THe first run should be ready to ship in about two weeks.
I had some issues with my first round of dyno testing at knowledge performance, there dyno crashed (the computer) after I did my baseline run and althought there was a week between the baseline and the axle back run I had a hard time believeing I got almost 20 whp out of the axle back. So I headed over to the local subbie dealer who also has a new dynapack and got the following results. We did 6 pulls in stock config, unbolted the muffler, replaced it with the axle back and did 6 more pulls. Ventillation was provided by two generic box fans so the conditions were less than ideal (which is what i was after, repeatable results). Only mod on the car was a forge vta blow off valve everything else was stock:dyno plot
Here is a sound clip of one stock pull and one axleback pull for sound comparison: stock-vs-axleback.mp3
and a pic of the tip (the production unit will have the tip setback a little more to be flush with the opening): tip pic
PM me for more info or to get on the list for the first batch.

Sorry for the confusion, the axle back does not have a muffler. The sound clip is one run with muffler (stock exhaust) and one run with the axleback (no muffler). One thing I noticed on our first mountain run is that from behind a stock evo at W.O.T throttle all you hear is a rush of air (which you can hear in the first run of the clip) and no real exhaust note. I was supprised by how good the car sounded without the factory muffler and is still suitable for daily driving, in fact it's quieter than many cat back exhausts.
Good stuff dude. Its always the best to have objective measurements...and you have 1 that no one can argue with. I have always wondered how much of an obstruction the muffler produced!
p.s. the tip looks cool.
I would order one, but my car has a different bumper.

More pics will come once the jig is done and the first production unit is produced. The simple fact is you get a few whp less than a catback for 1/3 the price. I figure this is a good unit for guys that want to hold off on catback until some more dyno numbers are in or guys that just want a little extra power for weekend mountain runs or autocross events.
I'm also working on a catback. If I can't make 20whp with it I'm not going to bother, and it will probably be focused on guys that are not going to do much more than a catback and a reflash or some other form of fuel control.
