After thinking about it more it's the transmission for sure. If it was anything else it wouldn't "spin down" when the clutch is pressed. If it was the clutch or TO bearing it would stop as soon as the clutch was all the way in. This takes about a second or two after the clutsh is in... you can hear it spin down.
Ya my bottles looked just like the translucent ones above.

I've been using amsoil GL4 for a while now and I know what the OP is speaking of.
When the trans is fully warmed up on a hot day its easy to hear if you know what your listening for. Also, it could be louder depending on what kind of clutch and flywheel you are using.
I don't mind the extra little bit of noise, mostly because I had an M coupe that I took the duel mass flywheel out of and installed a very light weight clutch/flywheel setup. Sounded like a school bus at idle when in neutral with the clutch out.
Heavy/thicker gear oil does help with this "backlash" noise, and the amsoil stuff seems to be a bit on the thiner side.

I use SVG in my trans and it shifts crappy when cold and kinda notchy when warm but it wont break and thats what I care about. If you want shift quality use some synchrmesh and pull teeth off the gears.

I used to have tranny noise, figured it was normal cause I had yet to launch the car when i first heard it. I did the diaqueen thing for the first 51k.
When I had my front LSD and new clutch installed I switched to REDLINE 75W90 GEAR OIL.
Wow, is all I can say. No more double clutching, and now it shifts like butter.

x2, I used to run OEM, which sucked, then started using AMSoil, not bad, but very noisy, then Redline gear oils. Night and day difference for me, noise and shift quality way way better. Im not trying to knock AMSoil, i LOVE their products in subarus, but my evo only gets Redline now.
