Defi boost gauge in IX MR - question

About to install a defi (racer) boost gauge on the steering column in my MR. Of course, I have the factory trio of gauges, but wanted something larger, easier to read, and in a better location

In any event, was thinking through the install. I understand that people with MR or RS have just used the line that goes into the factory gauge. However, I don't want to pull the line from the factory unit for now - would like to leave the stock gauges functioning as is.

Should I:
- Pretend I dont have a stock boost gauge and run a new hose near the FPR into the defi sensor
OR
- Disconnect the stock mechanical gauge and add a T line behind it and mount the sensor behind the dash. Then reconnect the stock gauge.

The second option would be easier, I suppose.. but if it i would be sacrificing accuracy (too many lines?) then I'd rather just leave the stocker alone and install from the engine bay. I'm thinking that if I T off near the stock gauge then i'm essentially inserting a T connection on an existing T connection.. doesn't seem like that would give the best results. Will I get a better reading if I just go right to the engine bay and ignore the factory unit?

Again, I do not want to disconnect any of the stock gauges, including the boost gauge, for now.

Help?

I wouldn't T off of the FPR. You could try doing it off the stock boost gauge line and you should be fine.

How did you do the second option if you don't have the stock gauges? Your sig says that you have a GSR?

Based on the discussion and write-ups I have seen most people tap right by the FPR? Why are you suggesting not to?

I feel like if I T off the stock line, it's too far removed from the source of the boost (ie., T off of a T off....)

Anyone else try this?

I hate to bump, but really need some advice here. I can't seem to find any reliable information re tapping the stock boost gauge line compared to running a tap from the engine bay..

I've read that the MR boost gauge is accurate while others say it is slow since the line is long. There seem to be opposing opinions. Would I get better results ignoring the stock line and going to the line near the fpr like is shown in several different how to articles that I've read? Or is it wasted effort?

I don't want to waste the gauge I bought by hooking it up so that it receives delayed readings...

Thanks!

if the line originates at the intake manifold it would have instant pressure.
the stock gauges are mechanical...that might be the "delay"
just T into the line running to your stock gauges. You will be fine

I have both stock and defi racer on my 06 MR and tapped into the FPR line and have no problems.Just remeber to zip tie all your connections so none of the hoses come loose.
