lagging? or what

I just got my evo i know its running a bit rich it blows alot of black smoke but i think its lagging or something. Every time i get on it is studders breaty bad. If i kinda easy into it before getting on it, it wont studder as bad. The car runs great besides that. Anyone know whats going on or what could be going on? Could it jsut need a retune?

Start with the simple things like plugs and a fresh tune.

Take it from there.

Another smart thing to do is replace that HKS BOV, those leak way too much!

I would also gap the plugs to .018 assuming they are a step or 2 colder.

.018 is way too tight of a gap, at the most do .022 maybe .020, now you sure your plug boots and spark plug wires are still in good shape, did you put dye electric grease in them so that way you dont short the spark to the head. double check your egr valve vacuum line n make sure its on and ziptied down. other then that do a boost leak test.
