First time replacing clutch...
Hey i was looking into replacing my clutch in my car i have replaced a clutch in a subaru wrx and an eagle talon awd.. so im ok with changing it out dropping the trans and so forth.. i want yall opionion on what i should do for a clutch or a clutch flywheel combo ?? A little about the car it's an 06 evolution 9 with 45,000 miles and semi heavy modded... full exhaust, stand alone engine management, walboro fuel pump, injectors, hks blow off valve, hks intake, with hks suck filter kit, new plugs, a professional tune, hks spark box (i forget the name it's a computer for the spark it fine tunes it) dammit i hate it when this happens... anyway it's got a 20g turbo and normally 20lbs of boost... yes small amounts of internal work was done.. no piston rings or built bottom end just longer studs and what not... no cams so forth... and a greddy 4in thick front mount intercooler... it's all done right just starting high and going for the long run.. buying the best stuff right off the bat so im not stuck later on with some crap i cant use b/c its too "small" or "in-efficent"
I want a clutch that is streetable where u can feather it if needed so it's not like hey it's engaging BAM !! in first !! lol not what i want.. i want a smooth feel and i want a clutch that will handle me just ******* the frigg outta it... i dont EVER dump the clutch but, i will semi-launch it... and i get on it a lot so, a reliable and featherable clutch like the full face responds... im expecting about 600 or so for the replacement clutch.
If i replace the flywheel do i have to have it re-tuned?? someone said it messes with the air flow or some retarded crap and it'll need to be re tuned.. if so, i'll pass it took too much money to get someone to tune an AEM standalone computer... blah !! im doing this right ... i keep hearing use ACT or Competition Clutch... i've never heard of Fidanza and some of the others... just wondering what i should get ?? I was aiming for stage 2 so that it'll hold the power when i get there but not to where i cant use the stupid thing on the street taking the grocerys or holding a cup of coffee in my lap....
Any suggestions on which clutch make, model, stage? so forth and what about the flywheel ?? if it's replaced what's the pro's and con's ???
HELP !!! haha

Oh, and will i need the syncro shift 1 or syncro shift 2 fluid ??? i keep seeing 2 different ones on everyone's site.. lol

I don't think you have to get it re-tuned as a lighter flywheel will give you a faster/better throttle response as it's not as heavy to rotate it. On the other side though, I've heard too light and it'll chatter. I would just get the flywheel resurfaced.
Right now, I heard the ACT MB7-HDSS clutch set was good for DDing and for holding a lot of power but it's still a full organic clutch. A Spec stage 2+ sounds like what you want.

I've read a lot on here about how hard it is to replace these clutches, and blah blah blah. Its not hard at all, even with the 6 speed. The only part that is challenging is the removal of that shaft that connects the t-case and the tranny, and honestly with the right tools (slide hammer and claw attachment to grab bolt) its a breeze.
Something you will learn with any mechanical procedure is to be calm, and just take it as it comes. If something doesn't work, or is just too difficult, you need to find another way. When I work on stuff, if I get angry or impaitent, I stop and start again in a few hours.
As for a clutch. I have an ACT 6-pluck, and it works great with the stock resurfaced flywheel. What clutch you get should also be determined by your driving style as well.

ive change my clutch twice in the last few months. once cause i burnt up the stock one and another cause my friend shattered it and the bellhousing. but thats another story. the first one i put in was the ACT 6-puck sprung w/ heavy duty pressure plate and 10 lbs flywheel. great feel. i loved it. but it does chatter a little but you can get used to that. then one of my friends destroyed that set up and i went with Clutchmaster 6-puck sprung and heavy duty pressure plate. kept it with the ACT 10 lbs flywheel. still have great holding power. they are both great kits but still they both have chatter. hope i help you a little bro. good luck
