Timing=blown bottom end??
Timing=blown bottom end??
Hi guys,
I really need your opinions on a situation that happened to my evo last tuesday. I had my evo a little over 4 years-->first owner and had only bolt-ons.
This year i hit the 60k mark so decided to follow the 60k maintenance. I provided the HKS timing belt/HKS cam gears and left the shop to do the rest. They did what was included in the 60k;however, i added the AMS balance shaft elimination on my 2.0. Picked up the car on 7/25 then on 7/28(3 days later) after work, i started the engine then seconds later i heard fire works under my hood. Saw a hole from the block. Could this be due to wrong timing??? I daily drive the car to work but hardly push it everyday. Confused to what happen to my perfect evo?
Your feedback will gladly be appreciated. Thanks!

Adding the BSE kit will only make setting the timing easier. Did you take it to a DSM/EVO/Import shop or an old-school monkey that has only ever seen cams in the block and chains?
Ill timing would bend valves and crack cheap pistons maybe, but not a hole in the block. That's a serious rod failure. How bout putting up a pic of this hole?

Sorry if it sounded as fireworks..I meant stumping noise. When I towed it back to the shop that day, he told me that the third rod broke and the BSE kit stayed intact. The car sounded normal at first then seconds later thats when i heard the loud noise. The noise sounded like hard metals punching through the walls. Yes, this shop is DSM/EVO/Import. I have known other evo peoples that have gone to them. So why my evo?

I feel so depress Jen...I know if the engine was just left untouch then everything will still be fine. Im pretty sure they didnt do the timing right? I just dont know what went wrong. Thats why i had to post this thread and ask opinions.
incorrect cam timing will not cause a rod to snap.......
No, i didnt hear any weird noises..there was just more vibration than usually because of the BSE kit.
Thanks for the feedback...Q: Isnt the oem block more reliable than a built 2.0? Cuz my block was completely stock or the rod was about to break in no time.
My sister's galant is 197,000 miles and my dad's montero is more than 1xx,xxx miles. Both of their cars are still running. Sorry if i sound to hasty, im just furious.

mine would spike to 27 psi before it went... and i didn't drive it that hard either. mine was likely due to a bad WGA. Swap is currently in progress and should find out the problem soon.
PS I bought the Forge WGA as a replacement
