Exclamation Bad thermostat? Coolant Issue inside..

Ok for some car info,

I Have the stock coolant return line sitting on a topmount Borg warner S326 ETT turbo housing. (I am going to change it asap) But I don't think this is the issue.

Im not losing any coolant, but im thinking the thermostat maybe sticking??

I drive to work and in the first 3 mins the temp goes all the way hot, and 25 secs later goes to normal and stays that way until I do a pull. goes all the way hot, then gets to normal 25 secs later.

Then the same result any time I start the car and go.

I drive home at night, 60 degrees out, drive normal and same thing.. It goes to Red hot, then 25 secs later it is lower than normal.. and stays that way and never any steam or sign of over heating.

possible thermostat? anyone have this issue before? I Don't / Can't spend alot on changing this part that part ect.

Could it be a bad sensor? thermostat stuck until enough pressure to force it open? or a drain from the fan turning on? I have done my search now time for some help! lol

Thanks

From: in front of your car
take ur thermostat out & boil it in a pot of water to see if it works & that will eliminate 1 possibility at least...

have you logged the car to verify that the temps match the gauges reading?

I did not, but I have a buddy with the cable and we can do that. Thanks for the tip. IF it doesnt match? bad sensor? or if it does??

Immediately, I mean like now, replace the thermostat. Driving around wondering what the problem could be is how you end up with a warped head.

I've no personal experience with the Raliart thermostat so can't help you there. The important thing, when having cooling issues, is to pop the thermostat right away. I know of several cases where people tried to limp around with cooling problems until the fix was pulling the head and having it milled flat when a thermostat at the beginning was all that was needed.
