GT35R rebuild ?

I've searched and searched and I have not found a definite answer to this question....
Are the GT35R turbos rebuildable ? I think mine is going out, cos the car is smoking slightly in boost and there is some oil in the filter. Compression test came out good. I heard that garett had a thing where you could get a rebuild kit for these turbos, but not sure if its still going on. Any suggestions ?

The GT series turbo's are not rebuildable. The whole cartridge assembly has to be replaced.

Biggie I'll let you know what the outcome is of my turbo. If the shop can't do anything with it and I have to buy a new one, I'll PM you. By the way, what parts do you need ?

if there is no excessive shaft play and you are blowing oil the turbo is fine

There is no excessive shaft play from what I was told, and the compression test is good across the board. What could it be then ?

Pretty much the whole thing, it's a long story but I need to source a blown GT35R.

4 things it can be:
blow by - but your test came back fine so that's not it
CHRA is on an angle >15*
too much oil pressure - this is what i'm betting
poor oil drain

what restrictor do you have?

I have the factory boost solenoid if thats what your asking and a turboXS manual boost controller.
If there is too much oil pressure, how could I fix that ?

ScorpionT is correct. Your smoke is a result of too much oil pressure. Ball bearing turbos require a lot less oil pressure than a sleeve style bearing turbo does. You need to buy a restrictor to lower the oil pressure before it reaches the turbo.

This should get you going in the right direction...

Here is another link:

If for some reason that doesnt fix it (highly unlikely) then get your turbo cartridge replaced.
