I screwed up my FP HTA3582R compressor wheel...

Hi

I have a FP HTA3582R installed in my Evo2, and when I removed the compressor housing during a turbo speed sensor install, I bent one of the compressor blades abit. Yes I know it was a very, vey stupid mistake, but now it is done...
I called FP to buy a new one, but they dont want to sell me one, only if they rebuild or I could send it to UK to get it rebuilt. I do respect that.

I have a contact here in Norway that build, balance and sell turbochargers (official Garrett dealer), so installing and balancing should not be a problem. I only need the wheel...

Someone know about someone that have a used/new wheel in good condition they want to sell me?

If I can not get a new/used HTA compressor wheel, will a new standard garrett wheel fit with the HTA compressor housing or do I need to change the housing as well?

Thanks

Ben Stian

Forced Performance is the only place that can modify their turbo, they use their own custom compressor. You could goto a Garrett distributor and they can change out the CHRA, thats all. They wont replace just the compressor. Even if they could, the FP and Garrett wheels are different so the housing wouldnt match.

Forced Performance actually lists the HTA82R compressor wheel as being available seperately for $245 in their 2007 (latest) wholesale+parts list.

I'm on the lookout for one as well and sent Aniel an email just last week and he said no they wouldn't sell one.

Given the number of recent CNC copies of FP's hard work, it's reasonable for them to want to make sure that HTA wheels they sell are actually going into legitimate FP turbos. That's particularly true when the parts are going overseas... Did you post several months ago about a similar issue?

It's unfortunate your damaged yours through lack of attention in a routine removal of your compressor housing, but sending the turbo back, minus the hot side, could be done quickly and the cost would not be too expensive. Good luck with getting it back together properly and getting back on the road. From your mod list, it looks like a nice car.

Thanks all

@CO VR4
No I did not post similar issue earlier.

@94AWDcoupe
I will take a picture of it tommorow and post. Are getting late here. It dont look bad, but I believe it is very critical tolerances when spinning about 150K rpm.
I removed the turbo today, and will start installing a custom 3582R from another company which should arrive tomorrow
Very excited to take it to the dyno saturday for a remap and see what I can get out of it with E85. I will keep you informed with dyno results.

Here are pics. It is the blade marked with " V ". Very hard to see even when looking at it "live", but it is a bit deformed:

Needle nose pliers and bend it back to see if it will regain the shape. If you're not going to used it you might as well try to fix it. We used to massage the blades in the PW-220E while in the U.S.A.F. and they held fine, within limits of course. I realize the material is different, but I think one could judge how brittle the Al is on the wheel as you bend it back, seems as though it's malable by the way it's bent. Also, never write on the blades with graphite pencils( I know you didn't here), the blades will crack, if they have similar charactaristics of PW or GE turbine blades.

Yes I tried to bend it back with a plier. Look pretty ok, but what is strange, is that I went from 522 whp with my old Precision GT35R 0.63 hotside with regular pump fuel to 485 whp with the FP HTA 3582R 0.82 hotside with E85... Even with bigger IC and IC pipes and bigger TB.
It must be something with the bent blade that is causing it. I suppose the FP turbo should outperform the old turbo if the compressor blade was 100%?
I did not have time to remap the new turbo on the dyno today, but I am very excited to see how it performs on E85.

Yes it is pretty weird, but I believe it must be the bent blade. If not, then my Evo are the first car I have mapped which actually gave less hp on E85 than pump gas

lol yea even though its and Evo 2 i dont think the map thing would matter. you should still see a dramatic increase with the new HTA alone, much less on E85
