timing belt: to change or not to change... that is the question

this is my daily driver and i just touched 61,000 miles. i removed the timing belt cover to take a look. its dusty but i cant find any sign of wear anywhere. the imprints on the timing belt is still there and it still feels tight. my question is should i change asap or can i wait at least 5k more miles?

has anybody changed their timing belt past 65k miles? did it still look like new?

I am in the same boat as you on wondering if you really need to change it at 60k. I have 64k on mine haven't looked at it though.

Change it, don't mess around with the timing service interval. The belts stretch over time and the tensioner will run out of play. $700 or $? engine.

You probably could get way more miles than 60K out of the belt. But, what you need to do is also check the bbelt and the pulleys. If they are looking good then reset the tension on the timing belt and on the bbelt if needed.

Most people, if they are going to do that much work, will go ahead and replace the parts.

The 60K TB interval on Mitsu sucks. On the Acura/Honda interval is 90K and Toyota is 110K.

I waited to over 70K, and when I folded the old belt backwards, woah , cracked like it was about to give.
I was still on the stock clutch, so you know I do not abuse the Evo either.
Change it ASAP!

All of the timing kit parts are good practice when doing the service.

Change it for sure! It is fairly inexpensive and easy to do. At 60k mine was showing signs of wear when I removed it.
