Using rev-limiter instead of 2-step bad?
I've got an '03 which did not have the factory 5500rpm 2-step. Is it any worse to use the stock 7000rpm rev limiter as a 2-step?
Its only worse if you don't like torched clutches and horrible broken mangled parts
Why not just reflash the proper limiter in for free (if you know someone with a cable)?

I'd like to just reflash it, but the car has the Vishnu Xede system on it - I'm not sure how a reflash would go over. Then of course there's the issue of finding someone with a cable and laptop who would hook me up.
Anybody going to Buschur Shootout on Sunday that would hook me up with a reflash?!

I launched off the rev limiter once because my car started rolling forward. It only hit it like 2-3 times before I let out the clutch but let me tell you that was the hardest launch I ever did lol. Would I do it intentionally prob not.
Yeah I've done that a few times. Car started rolling forwards a bit and lauched at 7800. Puts on quite a smoke show. I do not recommend launching that high with stock drivetrain.
That's why we have a 2-step so we can launch the car not based or off from the rev-limiter. Just make sure that u are on a COMPLETE STOP before trying to launch the car on a 2-step.
And just like justa4banger, the highest u should go to launch the car on a stock tranny (and hopefully, not a stock clutch), is at 6k. That's where I have mine set up to, btw. (On Exedy Twin HD)

I have made over 50 lauches at the track with my evo. I am on the stock tranny and t-case, I launch at 6200. Most-wanted recomends launching at 6400. I am also guilty of rolling forward while attempting to let out the clutch to just before the moment of engagment. I launched at 7800 not wanting to lose to the mustang next lane. You will be fine. Though if you get wheel hop and do not get off the gas... You will definetly blow something.
I hear that a lot of people that don't use the two step rev it up, up, up then quick slip the clutch and floor it at the same time. This is done reving to about 6000 quickly.

id try and get a flash if you can to help. cause lauching off the rev lim. will prolly cost you some good money in the end, if something does break or wear extreamly fast.

mellon, i know what wheel hop is and know a fair amount about it for rwd cars, but what in particular are you concerned about breaking if you wheel hop in the evo? just the drivetrain or the t-case? thanks for the advice appreciate it

Yes, I'm on the stock clutch and drivetrain. The car has 34k on it.
Like I said, I'd rather be launching from 5500 or whatever the stock 2-step is on the newer Evos, but I don't have that option.
Mellon - you have PM
