Just put engine back together... STUMPED

Alright.. So to make a long story short, ive been fixing a friends car, and have found boat loads of problems with it.. the ignition coils were shot, the car was running off 2 cylinders, the can sounded like a subaru.. I took the head apart, and found one of the rollers just laying inside of the oil drain area of the head... I also changed the I/M and T/B gaskets becuase they were leaking... after reassembling the engine, and everything was good to go, i fired the car up and immediately the car sounded like poop... im under very strong suspicion that the car has bent valves... the car still mumbled like a subaru, and after the car ran, i shut it off and a clicking noise kept occuring... i unplugged the battery and the clicking sound was still occurring... i tried to pull the CEL codes from the ecu using evoscan, and the ecu can not be connected to... after this occurred, the vehicle will no longer start... if anyone could share some insight on what the issue may be, id greatly appreciate it... Ive pulled the plugs, and they were very very black... i originally thought no fuel, so i changed the fuel pump and swapped fuel relays, with no luck still

Thank you for your help and experience guys!!!!

A compression test would be the first thing I'd do. Then make sure the injectors are stock and the ecu also has a stock map.

Compression, leakdown, boost leak, cylinder borescope video.

Black from oil on the plugs or fuel?

You may have an electrical problem.

Check all the ECU wiring harness and make sure its not all hacked up at the ECU side.

ECU has stock map, the injectors are the stock injectors... i will perform a compression test tomorrow morning... a boost leak test will be done too... im not sure why the plugs are so black... i wouldnt say it was oil, it looked more like carbon.. built up real real bad, and the plugs are practically brand new... i havent checked the ECU wiring yet so that will ALSO be on my to do list... thanks for your help guys...

usually bent valves will not hold enough volume to get the motor to start, it will just spin over very smoothly--like you have no plugs in it.. dont ask how I know, but it was on an evo.

A valve hitting a piston will knock off a follower.

well the timing was jacked... its going to be redone tomorrow... i suspect more issues than just timing, but for now, this seems to explain a lot of my issues... will post results of compression test after car is re-timed..

timing was off? I think you might have a lot more problems if this is the case. You might need to redo the head depending how bad the timing was off

My guess is that it's electrical: I would focus on coilpacks, cam sensor, or crank sensor. I have had that clicking sound and always wondered what it was
