I'm trying to search for an engine for a 2003 evolution 8, I know the engine code is 4G63t but is it year specific? I'm just trying to find the cheapest method to get car running. TIA

 

All VIII engines are compatible with other VIII engines last time I checked. IMO, I think IV-VIII run the same engine and might be compatible with any IV-VIII ECU (not too sure about this so don't take my word for it). Also, not all 4G63T are compatible with each other like Eclipse vs Evo. GSX/TSi have 1G/2G engines with the trans on passenger side while the Evo has the engine with the trans on the driver side.

It's when you get into IX with mivec things start to get a little complicated. I heard for an VIII, you would have to get a mivec controller or a XI ECU to get mivec working but I'm not too sure about this.

I know the engine from the MR will fit the regular Evo but is the transmission and drivetrain a bolt on to the chassis? Or will it need some work?

*edit found the 6 speeder will fit but needs stuff like linkage which can be had. 6 speed transmission is also weaker than the 5 speed.

 

dude just tell us what is wrong with your car. doesn't sound like you know to much so let us know. are you missing a motor and tranny? did you just buy a frame and want to get it running? are you missing your ecu too? got a wiring harness?

 

Got a shell, missing engine/transmission. Got the wiring harness. Just trying to get more info
