Transfer Case Install

Im about to put my new transfer case in and was wondering if theres any tricks that you guys use to make some clearance room. Getting the old one out was almost impossible so going back in is going to be crazy hard! I am doing this on a lift.

I use the factory jack to push the engine away from the firewall. This gives plenty of room.
The jack can be placed against the ds lower control arm. GL.

unbolt the lower front engine mount . put the bolt back in the the bracket on the block. have a friend use a pry bar and "lift up on the engine . There is enough play in the other mounts to get the tcase in.

if you loosen up that mount it is a piece of cake. It is amazing how much flex is in stock mounts the only problem is my method really only works on a lift Good luck!

Used that same method on a lift and on a garage floor. This method is great if you are using stock mounts.

I loosen the subframe. Drop it down a few inches and the t-case slides in and out with ease. Only 6 bolts. Or it might be 4 bolts and 2 nuts but its very easy. I have pulled the t-case out more times then I want to remember.

Well I got the car back on the road. I used a little bit of everyones method. Undid the front mount, used the china jack on the ds control arm to move the motor forward and it quite wasnt enough, loosened the subframe and it plopped right in. Took a total of about 15 minutes. Finished the whole job in about an hour and a half including changing the tranny fluid, rear diff, tranfer case, acd fluid, and changing the oil in the motor. Went pretty well. Thanks once again!

Good job SPEEDY!!!

I too unbolted the subframe when I did mine.... Damn that thing is heavy to lift up when you are laying on the ground with the car on jack stands

Good stuff. If u ever do the tranny, take the subframe out. Makes that job easy as pie. And you can do it all alone.
