bad time in my life right now.....i was cruising at like 15mph and my car just shut off, i can try to turn it over and it will backfire a little bit but wont ignite., i cant turn the crankshaft with my hands it gets stuck after 1 turn but turning over the motor with the key it'll move. i think i need a full head rebuild hopefully nothing wrong with the block/pistons. does anyone know what it means when your crankshaft gets stuck when trying to turn it? i opened up the timing cover and seen some shreds but do damage to the belt....but my point is, what happens when the crankshaft locks?

-also, what do i need for a full head rebuild?

 

if your crank is stuck it probably means that a piston hit a valve somewhere.

 

stock belt? or did you do the belt recently?

 

OEM replacement belt, with 10k on it. i mean whats more likely to be damaged, a piston or valve, my guess is vavle. but its not like i was a 7k rpm i was like at 1.5-2k and it just bogged down and died

 

with the belt on you might have a hard time getting the crank to turn maybe from the lobes on the cams. Unless you are really wrenching on it?
Plugs out?

 

no i didnt remove the plugs, cant turn it more than once period belt on or off...

 

sounds like you threw a valve into the block not allowing the piston to fully come up and allow full rotation of the crank.

 

does that sound like a new head or new valves? i never delt with anything like this before...

Your prob gonna need new valves and pistons.
When valves hit pistons they usually do a nasty job. I have seen my friends 2G that he got lucky and just needed a few new valves because they only left tiny tiny tiny nicks in one piston, but chances of that are slim.

Your going to have too tear the whole motor apart to see what's damaged.

Depends, gonna have to open up the engine to be 100% sure. Its recommend to replace the gaskets and seals so that adds to the cost.

Sucks about the timing belt snapping, any idea what caused it?
