Unhappy I think I have way to much boost happening

Well I finally hooked up the Defi boost gauge. It works great but was a little pain getting things in proper order. Anyway I went for a test drive, hit it, and watch as the gauge went past 20 all the way to 24 LBS. Ever since I installed my xede i always felt like I was running to much boost. Is this bad? I have been running this way for probably a month. How bad is this, and what shoud I do? Shiv any help here? I know that this isn't a good thing. My vac reads like -26,27 also (is this normal?), what the heck is going on? My mods are below can someone shed some light here. Shiv, Quantum, Z1 what the heck may be the problem?

Gotta love the Defi's and that peak hold feature(unless this is a d-gauge?). If you do have the link type gauges, have you done a record and playback to see if the 24psi is a momentary spike? I would bet if you are running the XEDE with the restrictor removed you are seeing some momentary spikes. Especially considering some of your other mods such as the turbo-back exhaust, cat delete pipe, and intake mods.

Anyway, I would record a run with the link unit(if so equipped), and evaluate it to see if you have a small problem or a bigger issue.

Btw- Where is your gauge plumbed in? Is the signal sensor mounted upright? I know people have experienced problems with the defi gauges if the signal sensor is mounted upside down or sideways.

Just a few thoughts, I am sure that Shiv will see this and help get you on the path to recovery!

I'm sure your fine. But without knowing what XEDE map is currently in your car, all i can do is tell you what changes to make in the XEDE mapping.

First, go to the website and download XMAP tuning software at http://www.vishnutuning.com/xede_evo.htm

Next, Install the software on your computer. Open it up.

Connect to the XEDE with the serial cable. Connect should automatically be establed between the laptop and the XEDE. You'll see a realtime display/graph of rpm, maf, map, etc,.

Go to the "Maps" menu and select "Download the show maps". This will download the map which is currently in your XEDE into XMap. A bunch of tables will open up-- 4 to be exact. There will be MAF (for fuel tuning), Crank (for spark timing tuning), Knock (for knock adjust tuning) and the last one will be for Boost (although in some earlier maps, the title may be referred to as "unkown"). It may look something like this:

The X-axis represents engine speed (RPM). The Y-axis represents load (MAF).

Next, figure out at what RPM you are overboosting. In your set-up, running 93 octane (I presume), you may want to keep maximum boost to 21-22psi. I suspect running the test-pipe is inducing some transient boost spiking. This is easy to take care of by taking the following steps.

Let's say that the overboost is occuring at 4000rpm. Simply go to the 4000rpm column and reduce the the on-boost zones slightly. By on-boost zones, I mean the cells Load 20 and above. I'd leave the lowest load point of 10 still set to 100 since anything less will cause solenoid to tick constantly under cruise conditions. The modifed boost table will look something like this:

To actually make the changes, select the desired cells with the mouse and hit the "<" arrow a few times. For more info on how to make changes check out the help file. Or this page in particular:

If the overbooks is occuring at a point which is not near one of the RPM breakpoints, you can insert a new RPM breakpoint where appropriate by following these steps:

Let's say the overboost is occure precisely at 4300rpm and no where else. Left-click on any cell in the boost table and select "Edit this map". The screen below will appear. In the "RPM Points" section, simply add in a "4300" breakpoint. Don't forget to separate all the breakpoints by commas.

hit "Okay" and the new and improved boost table will look like this:

Now you'll be able to dial back boost at that particular RPM.

Shiv,
I can't thank you enough. When lunch hits I will try this and get back to you. I'll have to figure where my boost is spiking at first though. It was crazy late last night and I wasn't really paying that much attention. I'll get back to the board some time around 1:30 pm eastern/std. time. Thanks againg for the help. I also may be calling in to the shop for some guidance.
