The 80mm will have more lag (200rpms max)
The 80mm does eliminate compressor surge
I have not seen any outside dyno 80mm vs. 64mm other than what Scott tells me from FP. I believe that the 80mm will not produce anymore topend over the 64mm for one reason. The 80mm will produce more turbulence at higher engine speeds than the 64mm. For example: On my setup, trying to max out the stock turbo, Scott told me to put on a evo VIII compressor housing because it is a bit smaller than the IX. He said I would gain top end. Him and I talked about making me a prototype 80mm housing for my stock turbo but after much debate, we ruled out that we would lose power due to having a larger AR, that the turbo has to try and fulfill at a higher engine speed. Thus creating extra turbulence that the turbo doesn't need. I'm not sure that this will be the same case with a red. but I would like to see a 64mm vs 80mm dyno. I know TTP said that it doesn't produce any more power but I wonder how much it loses???

I had my mind made up on a Red, now I'm plain confused as to whether the Red is really worth it. From what I am reading, the Red is a serious contender to those looking for outright power from a stock appearing turbo, but again I am back to asking myself, "well why not buy a GT30r?". I can only assume that since the FP turbo hooks up to a IX the same way a stock IX turbo does, this along with running all the stock parts is why the FP Red exists? Or maybe I'm crazy.
Can the stock intake and/or all aftermarket intake kits be used with the 73HTA? Or do you need a custom intake pipe for the turbo?
Or is this only if you choose to use the 80mm surge port?
Can't wait to see how this stacks up against a BBK Full!!
