I just did my 60k service last week, and my exhaust sounds louder also. But I dont think its from the 60k service. Its because I had cams, bigger turbo, injectors, etc... installed also. Iam betting that the cams had a lot to do with my deeper exhaust sound. Not tuned yet, so I dont know what it would sound like after?

If your exhaust is louder and you suddenly hear an exhaust ratle, it sounds like an exhaust leak. Maybe they dropped your downpipe for some reason to change out your tranny and transfer case fluid and didnt tighten it back up.

As for Corey I took it to Billy because i knew he was pretty much the man when it comes to fixing up evos around here. He is a great guy and does quality work. I'm callin him Thursday to give him an update on how things are doing and ill talk to him a little more about what could possibly be the rattling noise.

What did you find out about this?

I have this *exact* same set of symptoms after my 60K maintenance (done yesterday):

1) Tremendous increase in sound volume in the cabin above 3K RPM.
2) Rattling upon disengaging clutch above 3K RPM.

Is the car shaking and rattling badly past said 3k+ rpm. This could be a good indication that your balance shaft is 180 out. Happens all the time thing that sucks is you have to take everything back apart to fix it.

Check exhaust for leaks. Try PMing the guy and figuring out what his problem was and how it was fixed.

No real shaking but rattling is pretty bad past 3K RPM; I'll have a chat with the guy who did it and take him for a test drive.

I've run it to redline a few times and haven't noticed any shaking but the rattling is annoying.

I thought the increased noise was due to an exhaust leak but I watched them do all of the work and they didn't touch anything from the manifold down.

It was at my shop that the original poster's car had the 60k service performed. One of my techs made an honest mistake and had the balance shaft 180* out. We redid the shaft timing, reset the belt and the noise was gone. Mistakes every once in a while are ok if you learn from them.

It takes a real shop to come on a public board and admit to their mistakes.
