With all the flaming going on lately between shops and no one wanting to own it, it is a breath of fresh air to see a shop man up. Mistakes happen. Being off 180 is not that difficult. I did the 60k service on my car myself and I'm glad I didn't have any problems. That was giant PITA. If my car sees 120k I'm selling it.

I'd say keep on driving it until you know something is wrong with the car unless you have the cash to take it to another shop to check it out for you. If you have the time and warm place, I would go to the HOW-TO section and read the timing belt service thread and check it for yourself. I hate to pay people a lot of money so I did my 60K service myself at 47K miles. Car runs great no issues at all. GL

I did my 60K maintenance in the shop behind my house. The old belt was in time, the new belt is in time, and the tensioner is set with the pin loose. Well, the engine feels harder and has more power. So part of what the OP wrote is TRUE.

This is a good guy/shop. It is how people handle mistakes that shows thier character. When everything is fine it is easy to do business. When something bad happens the truth is shown.

Thanks everyone for their awesome replies, especially impressed with the character of the shop owner who took responsibility for the issue.

I'll have a chat with my shop!

If the belt were stretched.... It would in fact alter the cam timing, retarding it.
