As the title says, what is E85 & how does it increase HP ? I've noticed most evo builds are related to E85 and ppl seem to love it. Is it harmfull to motor on the long-run ? Please tell me more, I want to learn..

its alcohol and gas, 85% alcohol. Octane rating of race gas, 15-20% more consumption, but can run higher timing and boost. google is your best friend

 

e85 doesn't increase hp just by using it. u need a new tune, so the timing and boost can be increased. its rated at like 105 octane, while race gas is at like 110. e85 keeps the combustion chamber pretty clean, but some ppl are getting a sludge at the injectors, it has been found to be related to each gas station.

Yes cheaper, need to upgrade injectors greatly. Its not government regulated so it can be e70 sometimes. Gotta be careful with it too.

It's also more corrosive than gasoline..... But it does cost a lot less.

 

more corrosive? no.... it cleans your motor out. Its like methanol injection except its already mixed. Guys on here been running it for 6yrs and no rubber eating issues or anything....... It burns way cleaner then gasoline ever will.

 

Yea I hear that "more corrosive" stuff is just a myth. It's supposed to be cleaner, and I think I heard that after a certain year, all cars' fuel systems had to be manufactured to withstand methanol or methanol mixes, something like that. I know I'm not being too specific, haha.

 

Every treehugger in Europe wants E85 to be available in every pumpstation asap =D =D

Yes e85 is way cheaper then Any race gas. E85 cost about 2$ to 2.50$ a gallon depending your area. A few local cars from chicago that use to run q16 switched to e85 and made way more power on less boost

 

I am pretty sure Ill be going to e85 in the spring. I know you need huge injectors, but do you need to do anything with your lines? Are the stock fuel lines ok? I am gonna pick up a set of 1200cc injectors, but is that it. I already have a 255. So I just really need injectors and a tune?

 

With built motors, E85 isnt an issue ?

 

E85 fuel is usually anywhere between 70 to about 90% Ethanol and about 15%
or so of gasoline and the octane rating is around 103. Since the government does not
mandate this fuel there are always going to be variations involved unlike some pump gasolines.
But the good things are of course: the low cost, high octane rating, ethanol's cooling
effect in the Cylinder, and also the combustion chamber cleaning side effects.
There are some negative things though too related with E85 usage such as the corrosion
problem with most metals and the rubber seal deterioration on fuel related components.
Also of course is the fact that it takes more parts of E85 fuel to make almost the same power
as pump gasoline, thats why larger fuel injectors and pumps are mandatory for most applications since it alters the air fuel ratio greatly towards a lean condition.
