Ebay/Custom made Straight pipe.

so im considering buy this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lance...Q5fCarQ5fParts

cutting it at the muffler and replacing the muffler with a straight pipe prolly 1ft long 3 inch pipe? whatever length the muffler is. its 220shipped and i figure since i have the ability to weld why not just do it this way cuz i was considering building a straight pipe from scratch but this would be a lot easier

i like the fact that its got a sick sound and also ultimate flow. as well as wont have a huge muffler sticking out the back so it can be a little less noticeable

im aiming for something a pretty much like this:

what do you think?

I think you are going to get a lot of tickets.

1. Its a turbo car. Flow limitations are upstream at the 02 housing and downpipe.

2. I have heard mufflerless Evos. Its loud, its raspy, it drones.

I love the loud, raspy and turbo whirling sounds that come from a straight pipe. I took my muffler off my 3" TBE once and drove around and it sounds SICK, but it's a ticket waiting to happen. You're sure to **** off everybody in your neighboorhood.

My AMS TBE makes cool whirly turbo sounds, but it's not as gurgley and poppy as my Buschur exhaust on my old Evo.

I don't DD my Evo but it's driven on the street very frequently, infact it's never seen a track day, but even thought it's not a DD a straight pipe is just not a good idea.

I'd say if you want a loud exhaust that sounds closest to a straight pipe, get a Buschur TBE with a test pipe and bullet muffler.

I don't think going cheap is a problem here...piping is just that...piping. It's all the same stainless steel and all it does is reroute exhaust gases. I would completely agree on other Ebay parts like engine internals and what not to stay away but you really cannot go too cheap in this situation.

Piping is very different... Ever since I bought ebay exhaust for my gsx I will next go back to that. I went with AMS exhaust on my evo and the quality is 20 times better.

i agree.. its just piping? i don't understand how the quality could matter. i guess the welds nd ****. but im gunna weld a new pipe in replace of. the muffler and also if anything happens with the flanges i could always re-weld over them.

it'll be prolly the same price and a lot less labor intensive if i make it from full scratch.. but yeah.. i don't give a **** bout the cops. i get enough b.s. form them anyway. and yeah i want noise i love that twirly turbo sound as well f*ckin sexy. so intimidating anyway.. yeah..

otherwisae i was thinking about an exhaust cut out into test pipe. but i figured this would be a lot better cuz if im correct a full exhaust is better than a cut out cuz you still wanna retain a little back pressure

Nope, you want no back-pressure, at all. That's why a straight pipe, performance wise is the best way to go. But people rarley do it because it's just so loud.

I had an ebay exhaust and was just way too loud. The fitment was okay just as long as you get a TBE that fits the IXs ACD. The one I bought said it fit 9s but the downpipe ended up hitting the ACD so just check with the seller first. eBay exhausts are pretty decent and a lot of 400hp+ cars here use them.

I run straight pipe, honestly it gets sort of annoying, but once you get into 3rd or 4th gear its not THAT loud. In my area few cops gave me trouble but most dont, as long as your not speeding, or driving a loud honda.
