clunking when i shift

I haven't driven the car in a while but when i did, i remember hearing a clunking noise in the rear, possibly the diff. the sound occurred when i shifted past 5500RPM. there are a few diff support kits aka "mustache bars" on the market- i may invest in one of these. also is there anything i can do besides bushings and the support kit to stop the drive train from unwanted movement.

here are my options:
-buschur rear diff support
https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...oducts_id=1092
-works bushings:
http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...roducts_id=425
they have a few other kits as well. (also whiteline has a more comprehensive kit for bout the same $)
-ams kit

those are the fixes. You dont have to shift so hard all the time, stop dumping the clutch at every opportunity and problem solved,

The rear diff bushing replacement helped my VIII, but didn't totally remove it. I'm replacing the propeller shaft bushings next.

Do more searching on the mustache bar and make sure that is really what you need.

There is a lot to be said for analyzing your shifting habits as well.

if i do end up doing the diff support, does that mean that that force will be transfered elsewhere? possibly causing other damage?

I replaced the moustache bar with the AMS part as well as the metal bushings - while I was at it, I had TRE do the 1.5-way rear diff mod..........You talk about thuds, bangs, clunks It's AWESOME!

^ Haha yea those soid rear diff mounts are brutal . . .

Rear diff bushings should take care of your problem. I recommend those to all my customers, when doing a after market clutch( Noise gets louder with a more aggressive clutch). Good luck!
