Mobil 1 5w-30 time to change?
I have an 06 EVO IX with a little over 64k miles on here, last 10k with minor bolt ons and a tune. I have been using M1 5w-30 since day one and change my oil every 2500 miles without fail. I started reading up on oils and it seems like a lot of people don't like M1 which got me worried. Is it time to change brands and start using different oil wieght? If so any suggestions? Motor is stock.
Thanks

2500 miles for your oil change seems like an awful waste of still good oil. You probably have 60-70 percent of good hydrocarbons at that mileage. The only excuses to change your oil that frequently is because of boredom or you like to waste money ;]. Stick with M1 10w-30.

There's many scientific test I've seen posted here that prove Amsoil to be superior in many areas to just about every other commonly found oil on the market.
It's spendy but you should be able to go at least twice as far between oil changes since amsoil recommends only every 25,000 miles.
If you go the distance and do the math amsoil is actually the cheapest way to go in the long run since it lasts so much longer.

i just drainned my wifes Nissan Altima 2.5S after 22k miles on the oil and the oil was cleaner than what i usto see when i drainned my Mobile 1 back in the day @ 3k
Many of my non evo cutomers run our SSO and ATM and they take them to the 20-25K marks with oil analysis ran on the oil and oil was still kicking.
On the evo i would be confident to say to take them to the 10-12K mark with no issues at all, some good ole trusty has proved this over and over in these forums.
Teal2nnr,,,, man you have to realize that OEM recomends Mobil 1 because they have been paid to adversite in that little oil cap of yours to slap the brand name of Mobile 1.
iam not saying Mobile is a horible oil, all iam saying is there are better oils,,, did you step up your game in modifying you car, did you go from 290WHP from stock to over 330,,, well you stepped up your game in power now step up your game with the blood of your engine wich is oil.
Some people dont realize how much abuse oil's go though in turbochaged cars, when that oil hits that journal bearing on our turbos they get cooked up the oil almost wants to evaporate, now if you have a good synthetic that wont hapen and you will always have lubricity.

So send in your own oil, change and sent in the 2nd test. See for yourself.
M1 is fine, Amsoil is fine.
10w-30 is the OE weight. 2500 is a waste of good oil. But your car and pocketbook.
On my 120k Evo, I ran M1 and Amsoil. M1 was just easier to get where I was living. I ran for about 7.5k (I raced that car often).

Also, for those of you who want to keep following manufacturer's reccomendations and use Mobil 1, maybe you shouldn't mod your car? After all, the manufacturer dosn't reccomend that, yet you ignore it. Manufacturer reccomends 10W30 on a STOCK engine that probably dosn't get it's neck rung all the time and runs more positive pressure than it came with from the factory.
Mobil 1 5W30 and 10W30 have about the same viscocity as water. Imgaine how thin that oil is after it's passed through the turbo's center cartridge. Keep using thin *** oil, and keep having catastrophic failures.

Amsoil - Went with 20k miles between oil changes in my accord - after 100k miles, still runs like a champ.
Amsoil + Evo - Went 8k miles between changes with the Evo, #1 crank journal suffered major heat scoring and the motor had to be rebuilt. Amsoil is a great oil, but I don't think any oil can withstand the beating it gets from the Evo for long.
Now, I race the Evo - change the Mobil 1 before every track weekend and it never sees more than 1k miles between changes because of that. No problems yet!
