Well total expenses, I mean stuff like paying to take mine out, selling the S1, buying the S2, buying upgraded valvesprings, installing both, retuning etc. I don't even remember how much I paid/would get for the S1s, but I'm assuming that whole process I just listed would cost at least like 2000, minus whatever I get for the S1's? If it's just to pick up like 10whp up top I don't think it's really necessary unless I move up to some big turbo (which I never will). I'm planning on getting a BBK Full

you may be right. I think the install of the valve springs is whats going to get you. I dont know what the differences would be though in power. I mean the S1's are supposed to be much more mild of a cam then the S2 i thought. your call

for STOCK turbo-goers GSC S1? S2 too much for stock turbos while maintaining stock driveablity?

I am currently running the S2 with the stock 03 VIII turbo. I certainly noticed a large power gain from no cams to cams. This was without modifying the tune. After a tune I didn't notice really any gain. Driveability isnt that bad. But of course it has a lopy idle. If you even plan on uprgrading turbos or doming some more major engine modifcication i think s2 is a good choice. But ive never driven an evo with s1's or had them in my car... obviously.

You may want to get someones input that has used both sets of cams..

I agree. thats what I went with and Im certainly happy with the cams. I just need to sort out a few other issues whith my car to fully enjoy them. Talk to the guys at MaPerformance. They wont be beat in price. I already had a low price from somewhere else and he just took it down another 20 i think. Good guys and the cams come directly from GSC so they are legit.

you don't notice anything after the tune with the S2? Thats hard to believe.... You don't sound like you are impressed with these cams?

Maybe I will shoot for the S1 because since this is my DD I want a smooth idle around town....

Let me be a little more clear. When I compare my car with the stock cams to the second after we were done installing the cams (with NO modifications to the CURRENT tune by MELLON) There was a definite difference in power all over the RPM band. I didnt push the car too hard but its hard to resist. It just seemed like it could snap the tach so much faster. Especially midrange to top end.

Where i didnt notice any difference was when I took the car down to Ivey to get the car RETUNED for the cams. The car was a tad smoother due to a less agressive timing table it seems but gains from one tune to the next was a couple of hp and tq. I dont have a solid baseline pull from pre cam to post cam. But i did dyno on a similar dyno quite a while back at 269.9awhp and my baseline with cams untuned was 310awhp i want to say. But the 269.9 was withe a stock evo vIII tune. So its hard to say.

I just want to add that while the car was being tuned its possible that there was a boost leak. Its hard to say as it was about two weeks later when i was able to test it and I found this leak. So i think we are looking at a mechanical issue here.

If you dont want a lope and dont want to do springs etc etc. def get the s1 cams.

If you want some more information feel free to pm me for my phone number and I can discuss and clarify things over the phone.

Whats the go with this?? - post no. 28...
gsc s2
i have a set cant wait to run them. when degreeing them the intake cam was 10 crank degrees off. if i wouldnt have adjustable cam gears that would have sucked. i bought these brand new in box from a evom member who had personal problems and no longer has his evo. im working on the exhaust cam this weekend. is this number of degrees being off normal?

Anyone found their GSC cams to be off?

We sure do It really depends on what your goals are, a few years ago running a 280 cam in your DD would have been insane, but times have changed You will lose some low end torque / response but they will shine on the top end!
