Apagan01 riddle me this.

Hey man thanks again for the great service.

Now, talking to my brother on the phone the other day said he needed to do an oil change in his Jeep. I say i have a case in the garage if you need some. He tells me he's heard that switching to a good synthetic on an older motor is not a good thing. Something about really awesome oil (AMSOIL!) and other sythetics will break loose sludge and other nastiness built up in an old engine. Clogging filters and other general mayhem.

I've heard this from various places over the years as well, never put much stock in it. Can you confirm or deny that this is true, or do i need to look elsewhere. Thanks

I've heard that also about using synthetic in an old motor that has always seen conventional oil. Apparently, the synthetic will find all the little nooks and crannies to escape, busting leaks, etc. What you said is kind of on the same note.

I'd also like to know if there's any truth to this.

well i have heard the same thing before, but i have a client who ordered some AMSOIL and put it in his nissan pickup which has about 150k miles on it and he recently just put in the amsoil and hasnt had a problem. i would recommend using seafoam or something to clean the motor berfore using the amsoil

Alrighty here is the deal,

This barely applies to any engine these days because most oil carry some type of detergent, however what is reccomended is to check the oil level after the first week of changing to a synthetic and add some if you need to.
Not to be said sluge does build with petrolium based oil's and you have to keep your eyes open when you put a high detergent oil like our synthetic.

you should be fine, unless this a car from the 70s or 80s that all has it seen is dyno oil.
