Hi all,
On my Evo 4 there is a light sounding rattle when the car is idling. It is not there initially and it cannot be heard when inside the car, but when I jump out and the turbo timer is still running there is a rattle that almost sounds like it is from the gearbox??
It is about the same frequency as tappets but not as loud and sounds much deeper in the engine/gearbox.
I have checked all Exhaust sheilds but they all seem tight. I am stuck.

 

Could it be something in the exhaust too close to cross bracing, or possibly an inner shield/sleeve that has broken free? I know some model year Integras were fairly known for a double-walled piping that would eventually rattle the inner welding apart and buzz similar to what this sounds like.

I have little to no context on the Evo 4, though.

 

get someone to stay outside the car while u push in the clutch, if the sound goes away it maybe your throw out bearing

 

Not TOB. If it squeeks on disengagement it's TOB. Your noise is common, accepted, and it is THE CLUTCH.
