FP GREEN 73HTA Question
FP GREEN 73HTA Question
Does anyone have any experience with this newer "FP Green"? I haven't been able to find any members that have this one. I understand it flows more than the old one and not too far off the Red(54lbs/min vs 58lbs/min), spools quicker and makes good tq, but not quite as capable as the red.
I was hoping that the new hta green had a little more than that. I was told that it was capable of high 4's depending on supporting mods if of ofcourse. What mods did that car have that made 400? At what boost? How would you decribe the difference in boost response between the hta green and the red?

i just put the new HTA green on my IX. Im in the process of getting it tuned by mellon, so im still babying it. Im really anxious to get a feel for it at WOT. This turbo sounds awesome, even when not in boost. Thanks Chris for all your help so far, i actually just emailed you my new datalog.
MELLONTUNING is the SH*T .. Chris is a great guy to work with !!!

Can't wait till you post some numbers and feedback. I am so torn between the power potential of the red and the response of the hta green. I have seen mid 4 numbers here and there with fairly STD mods and one case on here was in the 5's on e85. So I await your reveiew. I am just trying to gather as much info so I can make the right decision. I was starting to lean toward the red after reading some of the threads on it but I am a little concerned about the lag. Some say it's only a little worse than stock and others say it's as laggy as a 35r, so we'll see I guess.
i hear ya man, I was in about the same boat you are a month ago. Unfortunetaly my stock turbo started to take a dump on me so i had to pull the trigger. I went with the hta green because i want rapid spool. Ive heard good things about the red, but the extra 4 or 5 lb/min wasnt enough to sell me over the extra lag. The green is in the 54-55 lb/min range, which is atleast 11 lb/min over stock. So far from babying it around town, the turbo seems to spool only a lil slower than stock. Its kinda hard to keep it out of boost, especially gettin on the interstate. Im gonna have trouble finding a dyno around here tho, Im gonna look in Lincoln and see if they have an AWD dyno.

Chris can you give REAL world examples on lag. I mean I think lag is overated. Just because a turbo isn't hitting full boost the same time as a stock frame turbo doesn't mean that its not putting down the same power: IE Stock turbo has full boost at say 3.5k, green hits full boost at 4k, red hits 4.5k and 35r hits at 5k.....but the power levels at the same RPm between the turbo's is on par. Like I may only be at 20 lbs at 4k on the 35R but I'm still putting down the same power as a HTA green or BBK....am I thinking of it in too simple terms.
Chris can you help with my real basic example. Using the stock turbo as a baseline for full boost at X rpm's, then comparing the the HTA green, BBK, Red, and quicker spooling HTA35R at the same X rpm the stock trubo had full boost at and determining what the power under the curve was at that rpm.
God that was confusing. LOL.

I am on the new green. Top numbers came in at 470hp/410fptq. Was up a little higher but we dialed it back, wanted to be safe and I am in the process of shopping for a built shortblock. I think I am going to go with the AMS 2.3R, a built head and while I am doing that sending the Tcase and Tranny away to shep for some love. I am going to wait for a month or so to do it so she can enjoy all the nice weather that is left this year. The mods are in my signature, I had a local dyno shop do the tuning for me, and it went great, we had 0 knock, the spoolup is great, it starts spool at 2800, maybe full spool at 3500 and holds it all the way to redline.
