Ets intake w/o Tune

Hey guys.. I tried to a search for this but nothing was avaliable. I have a ETS hardpipe intake I want to install. I have ams tbe with a ams flash, ams mbc, k&n cone filter, and ets licp. My question is, do I NEED to have a tune to put the intake on and not cause problems? I have read up on here that hard pipe intakes dont do much till it is tuned but im trying to figure out if its true or not.

I know you "should" to get the full potential out of a aftermarket part but I have a budget and cant keep getting the car tuned all the time when I add a part.

intake w/o tune is okay, but you wont gain anything and idle will suck

Yea its risky if you don't have a clue what you are doing. Its not that hard to learn either. Start by doing tiny changes here and there and you will eventually get hooked! Once you start to understand what you are doing, it gets much easier.

I don't have any spare engines in my garage, and neither can I really afford to either. Kinda the reason why I started doing it myself. Saves some money, and its something I like doing.

I'd say give him some time to sort it all out by himself, and then have him help you. Its nice to do it yourself because you won't have to have your friend to keep coming over to make slight changes if he misses something.

You will need a tune for sure, after putting that exact intake on my car i couldnt get full boost until after 4500 with the stock turbo. Got tuned and it was fine. And DEF DO NOT let your buddy experiment on your ecu unless your really looking to have to rebuild ur blown motor.
