Stock Evo, different boost in each gear?

The ony modification on my Evo is an AEM intake. In first it goes to 19.5 or so then tapers to 16-17 lbs. In second about the same, but then in third holds about 18 lbs to redline and the same with forth. Is this normal? Does the stock ECU recognise what gear the car is in and hold boost accordingly? It does this time after time so I was just curious.

It's from the load on the engine. The more load the more boost wants to come. So higher gears=more load

Boost

Yes, Your max and boost taper values are exactly what mine are. It is normal. I also think the ECU lets you hold more boost in the higher gears due to better intercooler efficiency at higer speeds.

I just installed my boost gauge last week and was wondering the same thing. (1st & 2nd 19psi tapering to 16-17psi 3rd & up holding 18-19psi) ....Well now I know.
