Well since my last thread was a joke this one kinda made me think. I was talking to a couple of friends of mine that are mitsu technicians and ask them about using Redline or Royal Purple in the engine and driveline(tranny, diff, transfercase). They said that only use Mobil 1 because that was what the engineers at mitsu calls for and that if I use anything else other that Mobil 1 that it will void my warranty. Have you guys heard anything like this?

your an idiot. alot of guys here are changing theirs to other than mobil 1. I just wanted to know if those guys heard anything like what the tech told me. I guess the reason mitsu. recommends mobil 1 is probably they are their big sponsor.
Oh ya by the way, I worked for my evo not given by mom or pops or lo-lo, lo-la

Yes you can argue for oils other than Mobil One, but FWIW I found it (at of all places) at Target for $3.49 each. This is the best price I have ever seen for it so I got tons!! Might be worth checking to see if this is a national price or not.
Compared to Amsoil, Redline, or R Purple at $6-10 each this is a HUGE deal! Hell, you can change it twice as often and still save money! The bottom line is to use synthetics and change it frequently enough . . .

Thanks for the info. I am pretty much sure that synthetics are very much equal. I all on your preference. Your right about Target. I saw that sale before but I didn't have the evo yet. oh well. they will have it on sale again like everything else. by the way I noticed that your in the wine country. I'm in fairfield which is not far from you. So maybe we will run into each one of these days. I have the weightless white evo with the UK emblem on the back.

I just got the oil in the last few weeks, so might be worth calling your local place.
I have yet to see an Evo on the road; have only seen a silver one parked.
You'll know if you see me; mine is the one with the "Evolution" emblem on the rear (you'll only see the front of my car briefly as I'm passing you)

magnason-moss waranty act
prohibits mfgr requiring consumer to use oem or "what they recommend." they just say that because mobil pays mitsu lots of money to get their name in the manual.
so mitsu can't make you use what they "recommend" and if you don't, void your warranty. its all about making more money. tell them about that case ruling and they will give you deer-in-headlights look.
more power to the consumer.
and have you guys heard about extended drain intervals? amsoil is the only (and first) synthetic oil company to have the 25k/1yr oil interval. They are also the first company to create the synthetic oil... you guys should check it out. i've used it and its awesome stuff. a performance shop nearby has a 500?hp mustang they take to the strip and only use amsoil and stand by their products.
and AV8NDOC, another evo with that blasphemous "emblem" got their rear end crushed...

Okay, one with the emblem crushed (hit by dumbass changing lanes in crawling freeway traffic) versus many more without emblem crushed = sounds like the odds are on my side Originally posted by iwantaskyline

Besides, you'd better wake up and realize the name of the car you bought, AND realize there is already "EVOLUTION" written on the back of all of them . . .

to actually answer your question, the "recommended" viscosity grade is 10W-30, unless you live in cold regions, and then they "recommend" 5W-30.Originally posted by blonde

I don't see why not use 5-30 everywhere, but then you can argue to use about any other viscosity as well . . .

Motul is also a great full synthetic oil , is what i ran on my last project. But if you compare price wise Mobil 1 is worth every penny . I was very happy with the results of running Mobil 1 synthetic blend .

I had that fish emblem on both of my 300zx's for years without them ever getting hit or broken into, so I'd say that the fish emblem was a blessing.Originally posted by AV8NDOC

The Mobil 1 factory fill is the best marketing/advertisement plan I've ever seen.
If you want the best protection, do an oil analysis on the different oils run in your engine. Run the same oil 2 or 3 changes then sample. All engines have different characteristics, materials, and wear differently. Lab/bench tests are worthless. The oil from your car holds the true results. An analysis will also show how frequently to change it, what parts are wearing, how well your air/oil filters work. I've done this with my Honda, Mobil 1 sucked AMS is better. Maybe DSM owners have checked out different oils?
If you don't drive a lot of miles, change cars like your socks, or want to save $, don't worry about oil. The price you pay depends on where you live. I can get AMSOIL for $23/gallon, and Redline for $30 from a local shop. I don't mind the extra $ for AMSOIL.
BTW, don't forget to use a high quality filter. I change my filter between oil/filter changes.
