Mild steel v/s Stainless Steel - Pros and Cons...

I'm looking at Downpipes' and was wondering what the benefit of ss was over mild steel. It's a DP and it's "looks" don't matter to me. Thanks in advance.

Rust.

If you coat the mild steel with some good high temp paint with rust proofing then it would be just as effective.

Stainless steel likes to crack with alot of vibrations or heat. but since it is a down pipe you are speaking off I don't think it would be much of a problem.

actually it could be a problem...

my Stainless Steel downpipe on my 1.8T cracked right around the flange last month because of vibrations...

it's always a compromise of something.

really, man im sorry to here that. I always thought I would be something like the exhaust manifold because of the weight of the turbo with the vibrations.

I get ideal would be stainless steel with a flex joint, if not get the mild steel coat it and save money.
