Ticking and Oil Light at Idle , help !

Ok, so about a month ago i was at the track and all of a sudden a oil seal popped out . Towed the car off the cicruit and towed it home . I did not turn the car on at all after trying 2 times when i was sitting in the middle of a paddock.

My mechanic had a look at it and fixed the oil seal. All of a sudden, the oil light came on so obviously first though 'not a good thing'. He tore a few bits and pieces out and got to the balance shaft. I had spun a bearing and chewed a fair bit off the shaft.

So we take this out all is fine, however, now the revs want to drop extremely quickly and then (im guessing is normal), the oil light comes on around 900 rpm or a little lower when the revs are dropping (only when foot is on the clutch though, when its in neutral it idles fine). Atm, ive just upped the idle to around 1700 to make sure this doesnt happen, but is there a way i can fix this and have the car idle normally with the stock ecu ??

Drove the car home and felt fine , only revving it to around 6000rpm atm though.

I also noticed a relatively loud ticking noise coming from in the engine, should this be any concern to me atm ?

Note: the engine is a fully built 2L .

Thanks for any advice or help ,

Cheers

Is the oil low at all? Even the slightest bit?

Na oil levels are fine, all topped up and no leaks .

Was driving today, sometimes the ticking is there, others it isnt, sometimes its louder than others , really don't know what it could be . I havnt had the car for a few months so maybe the ticking is just my injectors and im not used to it ??

Other than that oil light doesnt come on until below 1000rpm where it wants to stall badly .

hey , we have also already replace the bearings in the motor . Firstly they were to lose so they replaced them with a tighter one , they said thats what they always use .

Another guy i spoke to said not to worry about the ticking as its either the noisy lifters or injector sound. He also said its common for the oil light to come on when its about to stall (obviously) so dont worry to much . The mechanics i took it to said it should be fine and were confident about me driving it also .

What ya reckon ??

Quit wondering and have an oil pressure gauge installed. If the oil pressure is below 4 psi at normal idle with the engine hot you have a problem.

now if the bearing were too lose to begin with good chance you pounded the crank--you had a balanced shaft bearing go out and spew bearing throught you oil system --you have a ticking sound that goes away at higher rpms and car wont idle and oil pressure down low is bad.. you have a rebuild coming -- crank bearings are out--and don't just change bearings this time, machine the crank. To double check, get an oil pressure reading and compare to someone elses--my guess is you at least 10 psi down from normal= bad bearings. check you drain plug for metal shavings, sparkley oil-- once again bearings

This is going to be the best test you can perform.

Ok i do have a oil gauge on its way here , ordered it as soon as the problem occurred.

Secondly, the ticking noise is completely gone at idle now so im thinking lifters or injectors, not bearings !

When we replace the bearings the first time, we took everything out and sent it all back for machining and balancing including the crank . The main bearings were not shot this time, just the balance shaft bearing .

Also, thats what im trying to say, the car doesnt want to idle anywhere below 1500rpm , it never has , hasnt just started now . We're trying to sort that out using the stock ecu but its taking some time.
