best location for external wastegate?
here are some pics of the new setup. just need to do some welding on the manifold for bracing and add a pipe and a flange for my tial 38mm wastegate. going external dump with the wastegate, so it should sound mean i think. also gonna do some redneck porting on the hotside and manifold as well. just gonna clean up the flow a bit as well.

this is my new turbo setup for my 03 lancer oz rally that i obviously have turboed. thing is tho that i have a TiAL external 38mm wastegate that i would like to use instead of a factory one. i am a cad designer and work at a machine shop and a certified welder so all that is no problem, its just finding the best location for it. i know to put it as close to the collector and off of the #1 or #4 runners.
if yur running an external please snap a pic and post it to help me out if you have one.
thanks

With the divided housing, I would consider moving it down onto the turbine housing if you only want to use 1 gate. Keep the pulses divided all the way up to the valve face.
Otherwise, pick up another gate.

Take it out and weld up the hole from the flapper shaft. Might even get away with a pressed in bushing if you are reluctant to weld on cast iron.
I've been considering doing a setup like this, but the interface between the wastegate port and the housing has me a little concerned. Butt the two together when cold and when it gets hot, it will likely induce tremendous thermal stress and lead to cracking in the housing?
Leave a gap and hope it gets close to sealing up while at operating temps?
Come up with some kind of interface that allows expansion while still providing a seal?

this is how i did mine... im stock turbo with a 38mm external wastegate... prepare to get flamed for trying this though... but my cars holds 28lbs to redline now so boo yaa to all those running factory wastegate dropping to 21 at redline haha

nope off both collectiong chambers, not sure which runners its on but what i did was make a Y pipe that connects both collection chambers of the exhaust mani and makes channels it to a single outlet that runs to the wastegate

now its time to work on it in solidworks and start my 3d model.

try solidworks, SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier. i dont even use AutoCAD any more. i can do everything in solidworks, well that and it helps that im more mechanically inclined on building and designing things. that mechanical engineering degree will be mine someday.....
