Best rods for street car/weekend warrior?
My data shows 690g for a 6-bolt DSM Manley TT. That is second-hand info so I cannot verify, and I assume includes the bolts. Is 637g a bare rod?
Oliver CNC billet rods are around 580g bare IIRC, and those are 156mm pieces. Carrillo H-Beams are around 520g bare.
In general, I'm not a fan of heavy rods in applications that see high piston speeds. We've seen many motors here with many different rods over the years, and breakage really hasn't been an issue regardless.
My opinion is that IF the data I have is correct, 690g is just too heavy and needlessly clunky for my liking.
Just my $ 0.02!

Yes 637 grams is with bolts. Cant really compare a H beam to a I beam rod as far as weight goes. I really don't think you can go wrong with Manley, Carrillo or Oliver so all are good choices.
I was excited about these turbo tuff rods till I weighed them. I am with ted they are a tad heavy at 680g. The crowers are 607 and pretty much bullet proof. I am surprised the Howard rods MAP is selling havent caught on. They look like the hottest thing for the price at 650. weights are with bolts. dont see the point in quoting rod only. If anyone knows what the howard rods weigh post it up.

I purchased these for my build as well.
These are what i've had in my motor since 2007.
They seem to be holding up quite well :knocks on wood:
I've run this motor on 91 oct / 118 oct / E85 and it's had a boat load of passes and racing in general.......it sees up to 8,800 rpms at the track also.
We recently re-did the valve springs and at that time was showing less than 5% leak-down it's been a while since i've done a comp test but i'd bet it looks w/in normal limits.....not much in my catch can either except for all the moisture from the E85.
When i think about it i have an "old-school budget" build w/ the stock un-touched head

I'd love to clean things up a bit in the head but i really don't care to break the seal on this puppy as it's been good to me so far but when it comes time to refresh the motor i will tackle that then.
Pm me about how your car is coming along i don't know which forum is best to find ya
