2.5" VS 3" IC piping

At what power level is it beneficial to run 3" piping vs running 2.5" pipping?

And what are the benefits of running 3" vs 2.5" and running 2.5" vs 3"?

From what ive heard running 2.5" over the 3" is faster spool, but running 3" vs 2.5" gives u better airflow

I wouldn't even remotely consider 3" piping until you well exceed the 600whp mark

most cars running 3" intercooler piping are full out 800-1100whp drag cars

Me I'd run 2.5" pipe from the compressor outlet to the IC inlet and then 3" pipe from the IC outlet to the TB. This is just my personal opinion, and as such, it is worth squat, of course!

I don't see any reason for it. There are plenty of huge hp cars on here with 2.5" intercooler piping. I think it looks mighty nice poking out of bumpers though lol.

I really do not think it matters until you've reached higher power levels. The bottle neck on the intake side of things is the throttle body and the intake manifold. If you are just running a stock TB and manifold, then I doubt you would see any differences between the different piping, since the air would become restricted further downstream at these points regardless. If you are running a OEM TB and intake manifold and choose to go with bigger piping, you may notice a decrease in torque numbers because of the wider diameter piping, but then again you might be able to run more boost since there is more volume for the compressed turbocharged air to EXPAND which allows for some cooling to take place. It is hard to say what the outcome would be because so many different variables are at play. The best you can do is see what others have observed (who are running a similar turbo setup).

We made over 700whp on a DSM with full 2.5" IC piping and a bone stock TB.

would a larger intake pipe be a benefit?

If I recall correctly either Buschur or Dynoflash had made a cmparison test that it did not show gains on their cars... I will try and find the thread...

I have 3" on my car cause it looks better lol...I've had pretty much every size at one point in time and the gains/losses are very minimum.

in your case since you've upgraded all possible flow items (head/intake mani/tb) 3" piping would yield positive results

I'd consult with your tuner for his opinion
