Boost/turbo problem please help

Question Boost/turbo problem please help

hi there i have just brought myself an evo4 gsr jap import on a p plate (1997) and i have no boost what so ever the turbo dose not seem to be coming in at all
the engine has no smoke and does not miss a beat it runs very smooth and all temprature's are good oil level is good althought the oil does have a bit of a petroly smell to it is this normall???
is ther any reason for the boost problem that any of you can think of that i can check i am familiar with turbo engines i have had subarus in the past and ive now took the plunge into un farmiliar lands lol any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you done a boost leak test? Do you have a boost gauge?

ive not got a boost gauge yet and how would i do the boost leak? would the engine not run lumpy if there was a leak?i know when i had my impreza i had a leak on that but it still boosted but the leak was at the dump valve

take off the intake and see how freely the turbo spins, you probably have a massive leak

where do you think the leak could be is there a common problem with these cars i dont know about?

check to see if the wastegate actuator is stuck open, this will cause most of the exhaust gases to go out the wastegate rather than the turbine, causing little to no boost.
