Sounds more like a wheel bearing.

Yea sounds like a wheel bearing. Can you tell what corner it is comming from? Front, rear, right, left. Probably have a passenger go with you and try and see if they can tell.

Doesn't sound like TC. Sounds like something dealing with the wheel rotation. As you speed up the sound goes away.

no the sound is still there when its sped up .. the exhaust just drowns it out..

i highly doubt its a wheel bearing.

this happened directly after all 4 locked up.

I agree with all above, if it were the transfer case it would be more of a loud whine, and you would hear it increase in pitch with speed.

Edit: Can you narrow it down to a specific area of the car, or at least tell wether it is front or rear? Possibly rear differential, but like the transfer case I would expect that to increase in whine as the speed increased.

good luck

I dont think its the TC, every TC that i have seen go sounds more like a howl or old siren sound that is constant while at speed...never seen an intermittent sound come from a TC. Either way i would throw the car on a dyno and see if you can narrow down where the noise is coming from and take it from there. good luck

I have heard a few transfer cases on their way out in these cars, and every time it is a solid whine, never intermittent like this case. I mean, yes, it is a possibility, but I doubt it with a noise like that. Maybe it is the beginning phase of it, but still, I don't think so.

+1 to the dyno and just cruise and see if you can narrow it down while outside the car. At least that will give you a solid answer as to where the noise is coming from.

Personally im thinking when it locked up it chipped a tooth in the transfer case and thats why i dont have a solid death whine.

First step is to see if you have any shavings or chunks in the fluid. Jack her up and drain it, if its black, or you see some solid little particles, then I suppose we have our answer.
