FP Red with 9.8T exhaust housing for extra response?
FP Red with 9.8T exhaust housing for extra response?
I have a FP Red on my evo6 setup.
I'm looking for extra response.
I've got a 2.3 stroker kit build in the works, all my parts are coming from the states. That'll be happening early next year.
My question is -
Will putting a 9.8T exhaust housing onto a FP Red increase response by alot?
I'm only looking to make 450whp, so i'm not bothered if i lose some top end for the sake of picking up response.
Any ideas?
Please be constructive.
Cheers, Mike

Just stick to the normal turbo setup with the new 2.3L....From what I have seen it will spool up almost like stock. The addition of the 2.3L and a smaller hotside will not be good at all for your topend.
I have been wondering this as well. FP had released a 9.0CM turbine housing and they stated with the larger turbine wheel that it still significantly outflowed the stock. Now that the FP Black shows how much power (650+whp) the 10.5 with the same turbine is worth the 9.0 seems to be the better option for the Red. I would like to see that compared to a BBK. I am sure the red would decimate the BBK in all areas with the smaller turbine side.

i've got a spare housing here, i might get it machined up to accept the td06sl2 rear of the RED.
I'll email forcedperformance and see what they say

solving a problem with $1500 is a bit of a cop out.
i'd rather use the things i have to fix it than just throw cash at it.
not everyone thinks like americans do lol
yes maybe i should have made a better decision, but it was hard with the information i had to use.
i'll just have to wait for the 2.3

Offer your Red as a straight-up trade for either of the turbos I mentioned. Or sell the Red and buy one. How exactly is fixing a problem with minimal out-of-pocket cost a bad thing, or American, as you put it? If by American you mean thinking and researching before making a purchase then you should try it sometime rather than having to make threads like this
Also, why exactly is fixing the problem correctly a cop out?

If you are getting a 2.3 dont change anything yet until you have the final motor in there to change the turbo.
If you get a faster spooling turbo then get a 2.3 then your power sucks up top you will be very pissed as well. Wait and see if you like it before you change the turbo.

+1 ^ built 2.3 & FP red turbo is a proven and feared combo. I haven't heard anyone running it complaining much about spool. If you want better response after you've tried it trade your red straight up for a BBK full or an HTA green. You'll probably find a taker.

My guess is the smaller hotside would skyrocket the PR between the compressor/turbine wheels and add a ton of heat. I'd put all my marbles in that the BBK will still crush the red on spool even with the 9cm hotside.
