Power steering delete guys/chicks?
Any of you have your power steering deleted?
I May have to delete mine for my new setup, and i was wondering how much of a pain in the *** it is for regular driving
i had it deleted on my integra, but that car was 2200lbs and fwd lol
i have a dsm, not an evo.. but they're both awd.. evo is a little more nimble, but it should be a close comparison
did u run a reloop kit? or just cut the lines and keep fluid in the rack
discuss!
thanks

It's not THAT bad on a 1G. You can't just cut the lines and plug the rack up, and you can NOT run it dry. You must loop the lines and let your arms take the brunt of squeezing PS fluid from one part of the rack to another. The correct way, however, is to buy a manual rack. They are available and should be around $80 if memory serves. Obviously steering effort is greatly increased at parking lot speeds, but it's not that big of a deal. If anything it's a good excuse to drop some more weight out of your fat pig of a car.
Came up with something
Keep fluid in the rack, attach a fitting onto the input/ouput, run a Tfitting in the middle, that runs to the power steering fluid resevior
maybe this will work, atleast solve the problem of keeping fluid in there.

Ok here is the deal. My friend removed the power steering from his civic and once the car was rolling it was easy to steer.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE EVO!!
Its hard to turn the wheel when stationary. And I am perfectly fine with it. But once you start rolling its about 95% hard still to turn. Even making lane changes is a huge effort. The car just wants to go straight. Turning at an intersection the wheel fights against with some serious force to turn the wheel back in neutral straight position. And you definately need to keep both hands on the wheel at all times unless going absolutely straight.
So for a drag car that you want the car to go straight and only straight, removing the powersteering you can do. Anything else, I highly dont recommned it. You wont even enjoy it as a weekend car.

I had to drive my car without the power steering (long story). Even rolling it sucked. large turning radius and no power steering FTL.
it'd make your car completely worthless to anyone but someone building a full out drag car
I converted my Talon but I used a manual rack from a 1.8 1g eclipse and I have a welded center diff. Slow tight turns are much more difficult mainly because of the diff but nothing I can't handle. Once it's moving over 10mph or so it turns easier and at speed it turns very well and actually has a different feel but better IMO. If you do the swap, I recommend finding a manual rack. The 1g 1.8 cars came with manual steering as an option and can be found cheap used. All you need is the rack, and the passenger side bracket and bushing and it bolts right in.
