<MR OWNERS> 6spd or 5spd?
love my 6 speed ...but everyone keeps telling me it gonna break after 500++ whp...and my goal is 600+
it would be a shame to break it and waste a prefectly good box when i could of sold it for some $$$.

If your goal is 600+, and you plan to drive the car, you probably want to get the 5spd lol.
Depending on how tight the track is, you may want to stick with the 6 for the gearing (scca), but I think the 5 would be better on a road course and for drag racing, as you would have to shift less.
I'm at 377whp, and my car goes through 3 gears in very little time, which is lots of shifting. More power is going to = less time in each gear = more time shifting = less time accelerating. If Shep starts offering upgraded gears for the 6 I'll keep it, but when/if it goes, I'm switching otherwise.

"I have been working on the 6 speed upgrade for nearly 2 years and will be releasing the final revised gearset this winter. I've spent a great deal of time and money on this project and was hoping they would have be completed and ready this August but I'm back in school and it's taking up most of my time. None the less it will be available soon."
I would prefer to keep my 6 speed as well, and have done 5 HPDEs with it with a few fluid changes, no probs yet... but would really prefer to have a built version of the 6 speed if it dies rather than a 5 speed.
The six speed will always be a weaker trans due to size constraints within the housing. I love my 6 spd, but I've given up hope on it long ago (as far as handling the kind of power that i will be putting out).
True, but still, small things like cryo'ed gears, blueprinting (if that's even an option on trans), and some of Shep's treatments will help immensely for longevity under big power numbers.
Shep doesn't have one, but supposedly TRE will eventually have one, although it was supposed to have been released already... this is taken from his website:

I am definitely interested in seeing how the new gear set turns out since I'm still in the decision making process for staying with the 6sp or changing to the 5sp when the transmission finally crumps from road courses. With a cooler, hopefully I'll have another two years out of the thing....
I grenaded my properly the other day, I think it is 3rd gear and will postt back once it stripped out car

@ 620ft/lbs it on borrowed time...

If it's taken care of it should be fine, even at 500whp. The real problem is no one with that much power babies their car all the time. Also, it isn't the horsepower that's going to break it, it's the torque.

rather just change it out, before you end up picking up pieces
it not just the gears that are smaller but the design of the 5 speed is better to handle more power and torque.
